Faith & Hope
~ reason why ~

I think its important to "say what you mean and mean what you say". If there are people who don't agree with my perspective, that's OK. I share my position not to argue a point but because it may be helpful for some. My aim is to encourage dialogue and positive attitudes towards matters of faith.

Today we see horror and anguish throughout our world. There are some who terrorize and foster discord leaving people hurt or bewildered. People might ask who causes this hurt and why? Philosophers down through time have tried to explain but few have been willing to listen for the answer. Humanities inhumanity is at the heart of hurt. I believe if only we learnt to Love one and other and set aside the schemes of mankind our world would be a better place.

Often since Easter 1962 I have been asked what do I believe and why… The popular Hymn "Amazing Grace" comes to mind as I write this page. The words of the writer Newton so eloquently state my testimony. Over the years there have been many who have said what they thought but there is no greater group of words than "Love one and other".

I came to faith in 1962 through the loving, caring people at Tokomairiro Presbyteria Church, Milton.

I'm convinced on matters of personal faith and believe there is one God, Holy, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. He is God of all. I have concluded thus based on observation, learning, and experience.

For me life and living would be meaningless if it were not for the Love Of God. Recently I found a very helpful web site the content of which is well worth considering at www.christianity.co.nz

This faith requires me to be respectful of the thoughts and opinions of others; celebrating human diversity as together we strive for understanding, good will, tolerance, compassion and peace.

I have found in times of human weakness, affliction or fatigue God is there enabling and giving strength sufficient for the occasion.

I have come to have this faith as a consequence of Love and understanding shown to me by my Christian family and friends. Whilst attending an Ecumenical Youth Conference back in 1965 I heard and have since cherished the reassurance of the phrase "God Loves All people all ways equally"

I confess unconditionally and declare my acceptance of Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour. My Faith is founded in the Creeds and Traditional teachings of the historic Christian Church as revealed in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which I know to be the authoritative inspired Word Of God. I subscribe to the 1646 - Westminster Confession Of Faith.

For me there are three basic rules which guide me:-

  1. Above all love God
  2. In all love Gods Creation
  3. With all love one and other

Its important to grow in understanding and share knowledge with others of like mind; to express, deepen and celebrate the unity which exists amongst the Church family through dialogue, joint study, reflection and action. I consider the Church should actively seek to include diverse peoples within its Faith Family and encourage fullness of participation by those of different cultures or ability.

My hope is built on Jesus Christ and his Love for all humanity. In life I aim to encourage a positive open and honest joining together of people in respectful tolerance.
